Married Nanooks student-athletes bring partnership to ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ
It’s not easy to be a student-athlete — trying to balance classes, homework, practices, workouts and travel takes a lot of practice in time management. It’s even harder for married student-athletes, but Angela and Trent Molesworth make it look easy.

Pathfinder Award enhanced with monetary prize
The recognition granted to the recipient of the annual Pathfinder Award will be enhanced with a $500 prize. The Pathfinder Award honors an outstanding ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ staff member who exemplifies compassion and dedication to the success of Alaska Native and rural students. It was established by the Department of Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development.

Student spring award nominations sought
Nominations are sought for the Marion Frances Boswell Award, the Joel Wiegert Award and the Gray S. Tilly Memorial Award, all of which recognize outstanding ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ graduates each year. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to submit nominations. The deadline is Feb. 13.

Spring graduation updates
The Fairbanks campus' 95th graduation ceremony will be will be held at the Carlson Center on Saturday, May 6, 2017. This change to a Saturday follows the common calendar adopted by campuses statewide.

Feb. 15 is the deadline for early application for graduation with a $50 fee. The deadline for late application is March 15 with an $80 fee. Complete information about applying for graduation can be found .

President Johnsen's message on immigration restrictions
As the country grapples with the evolving implementation of the President’s Executive Order restricting immigration, I assure you that the University of Alaska is working to understand the full impacts on our students, faculty, employees and their families. And, more importantly, I want to assure you that our university remains committed to the open exchange of students, scholars, and ideas from all over the world.

We are concerned about the well-being of our students, faculty and staff who may be traveling and kept from returning to our universities as a result of this policy. Although that number seems to be small, any impact is concerning.

Work along Alumni Drive will begin Feb. 6
Contractors will work on the shoulder of Alumni Drive near the power plant from Monday, Feb. 6, through Friday, Feb. 10.

The ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Chinese Student Association will celebrate the Chinese New Year on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. in the Wood Center ballroom.

Alternative Spring Break team seeks items for auction
The Alternative Spring Break team is looking for donations for its silent auction. The annual event helps raise the $18,000 necessary for the Alternative Spring Break trip. Any item, used or new, that you think someone would love to buy is welcome.

Watch the Governor's Cup in Anchorage
The ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Student Activities Office is coordinating a trip for ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ students to ride down to Anchorage and support the as they take on UAA in the Governor's Cup on Feb. 25.
|
The cost for the trip via bus is $35. Lodging in Anchorage is not included in this price. However, SAO has a block of rooms reserved at the Sheraton Hotel in Anchorage.
