¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Day at the fair scheduled for Aug. 2

The ¾«¶«Ó°Òµwill host ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 2.

¾«¶«Ó°Òµ employees, students, alumni and friends will receive $1 off admission by wearing ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ apparel or showing their PolarExpress card. The day will include ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ activities throughout the fairgrounds.

The University Fire Department ladder truck and giant inflatable Nanook will be set up in Totem Square from noon to 7 p.m. Nook, ¾«¶«Ó°Òµâ€™s mascot, will make appearances throughout the day. The bookstore will be on site selling ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ merchandise.

Inside the Borealis Pavilion, ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ will have several special exhibits and activities:

•     See this year’s award-winning steel bridge.
•     Engineer and build spaghetti bridges.
•     Learn about unmanned aircraft.
•     Prepare for a wildfire near your home in virtual reality.
•     Try out mountaineering and packrafting gear.

In addition to these special activities, ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ also will have several booths at the Borealis Pavilion throughout the fair. Visitors can learn about applying to ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ, try on a career with the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Community and Technical College, learn about 3D printing and find more than 125 free ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Cooperative Extension Service publications covering gardening, energy, food preparation and more.

Cooperative Extension will host several 4-H activities on ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Day, such as a horse show, rabbit and cavy showmanship event, poultry showmanship event, and market poultry and rabbit show.
