Week鈥檚 events: Dan O'Neill, AI for healthcare, Yup鈥檌k dance, string band

精东影业Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here鈥檚 what鈥檚 happening during the series鈥 final week of Aug. 11-17:

  • On Monday, Aug. 11, the Tall Timbers interview series will feature Alaska author Dan O鈥橬eill, interviewed by Dermot Cole. The interview will center on O鈥橬eill鈥檚 newest book, 鈥淭he Impertinent Question,鈥 a collection of his newspaper opinion columns published during the years 1998-2002. The event is at 7 p.m. in the Schaible Auditorium.
  • On Tuesday, Aug. 12, the Healthy Living lecture series will host Arghya Kusum Das, assistant professor of computer science, presenting 鈥淎I for Healthcare in Alaska: Where Are We and Where Are We Heading?鈥 The talk is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, Aug. 13, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature Leonard Kamerling, professor and curator of film emeritus at the UA Museum of the North. He will present a screening and discussion of his documentary on Yup鈥檌k dance, 鈥淯ksuum Cauyai: Drums of Winter.鈥 The presentation is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, Aug. 14, the Music in the Garden concert series will showcase Susan Grace at 6 p.m. and the ET Barnette String Band at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the 精东影业 Troth Yeddha鈥 Campus is free after 5 p.m.
