Job Opportunities

Seeking an innovative and independent staff member to join our Department of Resident Life Team! Residence Life is looking for a .

This position is a full-time, 10-month professional role, with a master鈥檚 degree preferred, and requires experience working as a supervisor, as well as the ability to work late-night hours. The Resident Director resides in a residence hall and manages one or more facilities. They are responsible for student conduct, student supervision, maintenance requests, weekly walkthroughs, programming, roommate conflict, mediation, training, and overall providing a welcoming, safe, and well-maintained facility for our residents to live in. RDs work on a creative team, providing support and education to students beyond the classroom. Provides leadership and direction for young para-professionals within the residence halls and a support system to the residents they serve. This position serves on a late-night crisis response team, is trained in crisis management, and is available at various hours.

To thrive in this role, a candidate must be able to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. They should have the ability to understand the work to be done, organize tasks efficiently, and delegate responsibilities to staff members appropriately. Strong coordination skills are essential for managing programs and processes, synthesizing them into successful student and departmental services. The role requires analytical skills to assess information and problem-solve effectively. A deep understanding of the university environment and its various constituencies is necessary, along with the ability to conceptualize and oversee large projects that integrate multiple systems. The candidate must be capable of working independently, exercising sound judgment in decision-making, and serving as an effective mentor to students. They should be able to provide guidance on personal and vocational choices and direct students to appropriate university resources for additional support. Knowledge of student development theory is important, as is proficiency in common word processing and spreadsheet applications. Additionally, at least two years of professional live-in experience and experience supervising students are required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree at time of hire required. Master鈥檚 degree in higher education or a related field preferred.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, term-funded, (10 month) exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the , Grade 78, based on education and experience.

Are you an experienced administrative professional who thrives in a fast-paced office environment? The University of Alaska President is looking for their next executive assistant. Based at the UA System Office in Fairbanks, this position will:

  • Lead the administrative operations of the President鈥檚 Office, including scheduling, budget oversight and supervising the office coordinator;
  • Manage information flow, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and appropriate routing of materials and communications to and from the President鈥檚 Office;
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints, resolving or escalating issues with discretion and professionalism;
  • Coordinate and track executive tasks, meetings, and initiatives, providing support to leadership and managing logistics;
  • Advise and support the president, including anticipating, analyzing and researching issues and managing routine administrative tasks on behalf of the president.

To thrive in this role, you鈥檒l need excellent communication, administrative and customer service skills, including the ability to function efficiently and accurately in a complex, confidential executive environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Apps and strong working knowledge of the UA structure is preferred. The strongest applicants will have at least four years progressively responsible administrative support experience in a professional office environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor鈥檚 degree preferred; may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a field related to the duties of this position.

4 years progressively responsible administrative support/coordination experience in a professional office environment.

Candidates must have a valid driver鈥檚 license and a clean driving record in compliance with . May need occasional travel or evening hours to support president鈥檚 events.
